RARE 1960S B. ALTMAN & CO. HYACINTH PERIWINKLE QUILTED SATINY ROBE | MADE IN HONG KONG | FLORAL VINE DESIGN

One of the most beautiful quilted Hong Kong robes I have offered in over 26 years of collecting and selling vintage robes.  An exceptionally rare and breathtaking vintage quilted satin robe from the 1960s originally sold by the prestigious B. Altman department store and expertly crafted in Hong Kong during the era's golden age of luxury loungewear.

Rendered in an exquisite hyacinth periwinkle shade, this robe possesses an ethereal glow that shifts beautifully in the light, creating a luminous balance of blue, lavender, and violet tones. The richly quilted floral and trailing vine motif is unique to the piece as no two robes were made with exactly the same quilted design. The remarkable workmanship and attention to detail showcase the artistry that made these Hong Kong quilted robes so highly coveted by collectors today.

Beautifully lined with nylon with no exposed seams. Finished with an snaps and an original OPTI zipper, a respected vintage zipper manufacturer associated with quality mid-century and designer garments, further reflecting the exceptional construction of this piece.  

One side of the original OPTI zipper has been finished with tiny hand stitches, a labor-intensive detail seldom encountered in modern garment production.  The exceptional craftsmanship extends even to the interior where the front placket is beautifully finished with hand-stitched detailing, reflecting the meticulous workmanship for which these vintage Hong Kong quilted robes are renowned.  Hidden beneath the front placket are fabric-covered snaps, an elegant finishing touch that reflects the extraordinary workmanship found in these vintage Hong Kong quilted robes."

The robe appears to be in outstanding vintage condition and looks as though it has seen little to no wear. Delicate floral embroidery subtly catches the light, adding dimension and elegance to the already stunning quilted surface. The graceful silhouette, luxurious satiny finish and rare color make this a truly extraordinary piece for collectors of vintage fashion, vintage lingerie, Hollywood glamour, boudoir attire, or mid-century luxury apparel. Size: Petite - I am a size 10 and although I could get it on, I could not zip it up so it would probably fit more of a size 6 which is what my mannequin is or possibly a bit larger.  Compare these measurements to a robe you already own that fits you well.  The measurements are measurements of the robe NOT your body size so leave several more inches for movement especially in the bust and the waist as this is a Princess style robe.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition with one exception. This extraordinary robe has been beautifully preserved and presents exceptionally well. The original OPTI zipper is present and functional.

Unlike many vintage quilted robes that fall straight from shoulder to hem, this robe features flattering Princess-style shaping that follows the body's natural curves, creating an elegant hourglass silhouette.

As a result, the wearer's bust measurement should be approximately 2-3 inches smaller than the robe's bust measurement for the zipper to close properly. The zipper itself is in working condition.

Hidden fabric-covered snaps beneath the front placket provide additional closure. One side of the zipper has been hand-finished with tiny stitches, and the interior placket displays meticulous workmanship throughout. There is a 9" separation along an interior lining seam near the hem. The fabric itself is sound, and the separation is not visible when worn. An easy repair for a seamstress or dry cleaner. Otherwise, this rare and stunning robe remains in remarkable vintage condition.

Care Instructions

We examine each item carefully and note any imperfections, but unless an item is said to be new, please don't expect it to be perfect & even some new items have small imperfections. I will always state in the description if there are any imperfections & I never do repairs but leave them to others who are better able to do them than me as that is not my expertise.

Please remember that unless specified all items have been used and will show varying signs of use or wear. We always list the obvious imperfections to the best of our abilities. However, some slight imperfections that will not show or affect wearing or using the item may slip by or not be considered worth mentioning.

Vintage nightgowns & peignoirs may be delicate so I do not wash them in the machine. I wash them in lukewarm water with Woolite or some other mild soap, then rinse & hang dripping wet in the shower.

Since these are vintage items, a bit of extra care needs to be taken with them so they remain beautiful & I definitely would never put a vintage nightgown or a peignoir in the dryer as it would ruin it.

The items are sold as we find them. We do not dry clean, launder, alter or repair vintage clothing and they should be cleaned or washed upon arrival. Please make your selection carefully & check the measurements as there is no return on clothing or other items.
