VINTAGE '50s GENE SHELLY PINK & BLACK BEADED RAYON DRESS - MADE IN HONG KONG
I love this vintage pink rayon dress by Gene Shelly - it reminds me of the good & plenty candy with the dark silver shot & beautiful pink color
This gorgeous dress is hand decorated in Hong Kong - can you imagine the time & work that went into this with all of the beading - incredible! - dresses are just not made like this anymore as manufacturers cannot afford to do so
The dress is by the wonderful vintage Gene Shelly by Dale Lin - i purchased a spectacular evening sweater that was encrusted with iridescent sequins & yarn flowers in the early ‘60s & at that time it was $350 - you can imagine what the price would be today if it were $350 in the ‘60s!
The vintage pink dress is heavy with beading especially thick around the neck & armholes - this is one of those wonderful dresses that if one’s waistline should be a bit larger than you would like, you can’t tell in this dress as it comes straight down which makes it very sleek & elegant looking plus hides a lot of figure flaws if one should have any
Random beading is sprinkled all over the dress for a beautiful look - deep v neckline in back surrounded with more heavy beading - tiny thread with snaps to hold bra or slip straps in place - only put in the most expensive dresses - great long darts from the bustline to hip area - fully lined with a silky lining - back metal zipper
An absolutely gorgeous vintage rayon linen-like dress from Gene Shelly from Hong Kong in pink perfect for spring & summer
By: Gene Shelly - Dale Lin - hand decorated in Hong Kong
Size: vintage size 16 but not really size 16 since the sizes changed in the ‘70s so go by the measurements
Fabric: 100% rayon
Condition: very good - some beading loose which could use a few stitches to pull together - some beading missing on the bodice & back of skirt which could be replaced by taking some beading from the lower back or side of the skirt & replace it with that - easy fix - but the majority of the beading is there since there is so much of it
Care: dry clean
We examine each item carefully and note any imperfections, but unless an item is said to be new, please don't expect it to be perfect & even some new items have small imperfections. I will always state in the description if there are any imperfections & I never do repairs but leave them to others who are better able to do them than me as that is not my expertise.
Please remember that unless specified all items have been used and will show varying signs of use or wear. We always list the obvious imperfections to the best of our abilities. However, some slight imperfections that will not show or affect wearing or using the item may slip by or not be considered worth mentioning.
Vintage nightgowns & peignoirs may be delicate so I do not wash them in the machine. I wash them in lukewarm water with Woolite or some other mild soap, then rinse & hang dripping wet in the shower.
Since these are vintage items, a bit of extra care needs to be taken with them so they remain beautiful & I definitely would never put a vintage nightgown or a peignoir in the dryer as it would ruin it.
The items are sold as we find them. We do not dry clean, launder, alter or repair vintage clothing and they should be cleaned or washed upon arrival. Please make your selection carefully & check the measurements as there is no return on clothing or other items.
