VINTAGE 80s/90s PATRIOTIC STARS & STRIPES CARDIGAN – RAMIE COTTON AMERICANA KNIT – RED LIPS TAG – SMALL/MEDIUM

This beautifully detailed vintage patriotic cardigan is a standout piece from the late 1980s to early 1990s. Crafted in a textured ramie/cotton blend, it features appliqué stars, American flag pockets, and novelty flag buttons — all hallmarks of the charming Americana novelty knits of the era.

A small embroidered red lips motif appears on the interior tag area, a signature detail used by boutique import brands of the time. These sweaters were produced in limited quantities and sold through specialty shops, making them increasingly collectible today.  Hand painted glazed ceramic style buttons with a glass like finish.

Features a patriotic Americana flag design — a common and widely accepted fashion motif.  Perfect for holidays, vintage lovers or anyone who appreciates unique, expressive knitwear.

Size: Tag says Small but it could probably fit a medium but go by the measurements for a good fit.  I normally wear a size 10, and while I was able to put the sweater on, the sleeves felt snug. For the most comfortable fit, this piece is best suited for someone who typically wears under a size 10.

Shoulder to shoulder - Appx 18 because of the dropped sleeve
Waist:  38 - 40

Fabric: 55% ramie / 45% cotton
Care: Hand wash - Lay flat to dry
Condition: Overall excellent vintage condition with no signs of wear - Looks as though it has not been worn.  The lowest button has a noticeable chip on the lower right corner (about 20%). Because it sits at the very bottom of the cardigan and the design is so detailed, it blends in and isn’t distracting when worn. (photo) - probably happened at the store when people were handling it and were not careful - store mark on size tag (photo).  The decorative flag buttons are attached over functional buttons underneath. Since the sweater appears unworn, the buttonholes are still tight which is common with ramie/cotton knits. If preferred, the underlying functional buttons can be replaced with slightly smaller one, or the ends of the buttonholes can be carefully slit open to allow the original buttons to slide through more easily.

Care Instructions

We examine each item carefully and note any imperfections, but unless an item is said to be new, please don't expect it to be perfect & even some new items have small imperfections. I will always state in the description if there are any imperfections & I never do repairs but leave them to others who are better able to do them than me as that is not my expertise.

Please remember that unless specified all items have been used and will show varying signs of use or wear. We always list the obvious imperfections to the best of our abilities. However, some slight imperfections that will not show or affect wearing or using the item may slip by or not be considered worth mentioning.

Vintage nightgowns & peignoirs may be delicate so I do not wash them in the machine. I wash them in lukewarm water with Woolite or some other mild soap, then rinse & hang dripping wet in the shower.

Since these are vintage items, a bit of extra care needs to be taken with them so they remain beautiful & I definitely would never put a vintage nightgown or a peignoir in the dryer as it would ruin it.

The items are sold as we find them. We do not dry clean, launder, alter or repair vintage clothing and they should be cleaned or washed upon arrival. Please make your selection carefully & check the measurements as there is no return on clothing or other items.
