*FANCY VINTAGE '60s HOLLYWOOD REGENCY SYROCO SHELF FOR HALL OR BEDROOM OR TEESTER BED CROWN

The following is information from the Syracruse University Libraries Special Collection Research Center on the Syroco and Dart Industries Company who manufactured this lovely item and my thanks to them..

‘The Syracuse Ornamental Company, known as Syroco, was an American manufacturing company based in Syracuse, New York. They were best known for their molded wood-pulp products that resembled hand-carving. They developed a material looked and felt like wood but that which could be shaped, allowing multiple pieces to be produced through a molding process.  Products included fireplace mantelpieces and other types of interior decoration popular in late Victorian homes.

Syroco added more lines of injection molded plastics when a new plant was opened in 1963.  The company began to use plastic in new "modern" designs and new forms for clocks, mirrors, tables and a range of household items.  In 1965 the company was bought by Rexall Drug and Chemical Company (which soon changed its name to Dart Industries). Dart owned Tupperware, from which Syroco gained more knowledge of injection molding.”

A lovely vintage gold Syroco Dart Industries ornate Hollywood Regency shelf from the '60s.

The shelf is in a gold tone and the top of the shelf is textured.  Very feminine and ornate with multi-colored floral accents and swirls.  The shelf can be painted any color that you like - possibly a chippy white for a bedroom would be nice or a glossy black to put in a hallway.  I used it in a hallway and had a little lamp on it and it looked great.

It was also used in another house turned upside down for a teester bed crown over the bed with drapes on either side and it looked beautiful and so elegant.

The measurements are appx. 19" - 20" across at the widest point on top.  8" wide.  6-1/4" from the top of the shelf to the end of the point in front. Hooks on each side to put a screw through.

Inside it says "Copyright" or copyrint "MCMLXIX" in Roman Numerals (1969), "Dart Ind Made in USA 3025"

Store mark underneath the shelf which will not be visible and can be painted over.   Paint is peeling on the underside where the mfg's name is.  Some paint loss on the rim around the shelf but it could be painted over if you wish but it really not noticeable when in place.

Great vintage accent decorative piece for a bedroom, living room, hall or entry especially if you hung a mirror above it!

Care Instructions

We examine each item carefully and note any imperfections, but unless an item is said to be new, please don't expect it to be perfect & even some new items have small imperfections. I will always state in the description if there are any imperfections & I never do repairs but leave them to others who are better able to do them than me as that is not my expertise.

Please remember that unless specified all items have been used and will show varying signs of use or wear. We always list the obvious imperfections to the best of our abilities. However, some slight imperfections that will not show or affect wearing or using the item may slip by or not be considered worth mentioning.

Vintage nightgowns & peignoirs may be delicate so I do not wash them in the machine. I wash them in lukewarm water with Woolite or some other mild soap, then rinse & hang dripping wet in the shower.

Since these are vintage items, a bit of extra care needs to be taken with them so they remain beautiful & I definitely would never put a vintage nightgown or a peignoir in the dryer as it would ruin it.

The items are sold as we find them. We do not dry clean, launder, alter or repair vintage clothing and they should be cleaned or washed upon arrival. Please make your selection carefully & check the measurements as there is no return on clothing or other items.
