* VINTAGE ASIAN BEADED DRAGON EVENING GOWN & COAT SET WITH METAL ZIPPER & HAND STITCHING
This is an absolutely stunning Asian hand-tailored hot pink and turquoise evening coat and evening gown from Kowloon, Hong Kong from my own personal collection which I have had for decades. Although I have never worn it, I am sure someone else has.
Since the label had "Hyatt Hotel Kowloon, Hong Kong", I decided to research this gorgeous set to what information I could find out about it - I spoke with a very helpful customer service representative at the Hyatt hotels and found out this information. The hotel was purchased in 1969 when it was called "The Presidents' Hotel". After the purchase, Hyatt hotel changed the name to "The Hyatt Regency" and it closed on 1/1/2006.
In 1989, Hyatt hotels opened "The Grand Hyatt" in Kowloon, Hong Kong which is a stunning 5-star hotel and most definitely in business. So this beautiful set came from the Hyatt Regency anywhere from when it opened in 1969 to sometime in the '70s as this is the opulent style for that time period.
The bead work and artistic design of the outfit is museum quality. The ensemble is in turquoise peau de soir lined with a hot pink satin lining in the coat. My photos make the lining look reddish but it is definitely a beautiful hot pink. There is trapunto stitching (also called "stuffed work") inside the hot pink coat lining adorned with stitched stuffed medallions.
The outside of the coat has large diamond-shaped gold and turquoise frogs. The Mandarin collar, neckline and down the front of the coat is trimmed with blue satin and gold trim. The turquoise hem of the coat inside is trimmed with more hot pink satin. There is a lot of hand tailoring and stitching in this fabulous evening coat and dress. I do not know where to begin with this gorgeous evening dress it is so fabulous!
The beading is just exquisite and the dress is encrusted with red and gold beads in addition to gold shot in the form of an Asian dragon and a phoenix. The gold beading is lighter, brighter and more beautiful than shown in the photos. The color of the gold beading is closer to the side view of the evening gown in the 4th photo up from the bottom. There are long 22 inch slits up both sides for a glimpse of legs when walking.
An open keyhole in the bodice is trimmed with more blue and gold trim which travels up to the matching Mandarin collar just like the coat. More frogs and a hook and eye for closure at the neckline. A long metal zipper (put in with hand stitching) in back with a snap and a hook and eye. Again as with the coat, a lot of hand tailoring and stitching in this gorgeous evening gown!
This is a fabulous vintage evening coat and gown ensemble that you will never see again. Not only are the colors of turquoise and hot pink unique together but the beading is exquisite as one would expect from Hong Kong!

Approximate Measurements – This means the measurements of the item listed – not of your own figure. You must be a few inches smaller than the measurements shown.
Size: No size tag but I wear an 8 - 10 and it fit like a dream but go by the measurements for a good fit.!
Shoulder to shoulder: 15
Length of sleeve from collar: 27 - 28
Length: from neck to hem extra long 57-58
Bust: 38 - 39
Length: extra long 56 - 57
Fabric: No tag but probably a beautiful luxurious peau de soir
Condition: Overall very good condition. Minimal bead loss - some light small soiling several inches below the frogs on the front of the coat, some a little farther down, some soiling in the collar area. The inside hem of the coat was taken up and it is soiled where the old hem was but the hot pink lining covers it and no one can see it. On the whole, the set is in excellent condition but could use a cleaning to freshen it up or could be worn as is if you wanted as one would probably be wearing this at night and the small imperfections would not be noticed.
Care: Dry clean

When buying vintage clothes on line, one must own a tape measure & measure a similar garment to see if the new garment falls within the measurements that are given in the description. You cannot look at the measurements & think that those are your own measurements & that it will fit. All garments need to be a few inches larger than one’s own body measurements for a good fit.
All items are pre-owned by someone unless otherwise stated as new old stock and may have some signs of wear which is understandable. I always note any major obvious imperfections although a small one may slip through without my noticing it and if I miss it, it must be very small.
All items are wrapped with acid-free tissue. No item will ever be sent wrinkled beyond belief in an old plastic grocery bag inside of an old reused marked up envelope as has happened to me by some sellers. I think too much of my customers & my products to do that to anyone.
I do not accept cancellations, exchanges or returns so make your selection carefully.
All vintage items are just that vintage & not new straight from the mall– and may show some imperfections, wear and use because of the age. I try to list any imperfection but a small one could slip by unintentionally. All sales are final.
Items are shipped parcel post, priority or first class depending on the weight, destination & what the item is at seller’s discretion. International orders cannot be returned or refunded to credit card or any other manner so chose your item carefully & check the measurements thoroughly.
Shipping charges do not include insurance & I strongly recommend purchasing insurance for all items. Contact me before buying & I can add the insurance charge onto your invoice.
